Event Details

Supper 101 equips young adults with the skills to make real, wholesome meals for themselves and others. Each time they meet, Supper 101 students will make and eat a well-balanced supper. 

Concepts: Safety and hygiene; planning the meal and the work; reading recipes;

Skills: planning; washing, peeling, and prepping produce; sauteing aromatics and building a sauce or soup; cooking pasta; roasting vegetables; making a compound butter; measuring liquid and dry ingredients; working with yeast; kneading and rolling out dough; rubbing flour into butter; separating eggs; beating egg whites; making a bechamel; souffle; blanching and shocking vegetables; whisking emulsions; basic stovetop cooking; greasing pans; preheating the oven; mixing wet and dry ingredients; basic baking and roasting; testing baked goods for doneness; balancing flavors.

Activities: Week 1 — pasta and homemade sauce, roasted vegetables, garlic bread, fresh fruit with yogurt; Week 2 — minestrone, focaccia, and fruit crisp; Week 3 — omelets, salad (or shocked veggies) with vinaigrette, brownies.
