"I am an Artist in exile, a Spirit on the run, displaced from the familiar, transplanted into the foreign, only to discover that the one has become the other. I am remembering going back after the Flood. I am searching for something to carry away with me. I find a picture of my great grandfather, a baby picture of my sister, and a poetry award I won in the fourth grade. I leave with my treasure. Happy, determined, tired, dazed. About 21 seasons, the birth of a son, and several performances and lectures have passed since then. Either things happened "before the Storm" or "after the Storm." I wonder if our Ancestors held this same thought during their displacement to these shores. Is the cultural genetic passed from one generation to the next, one of a nomadic people in search of a place?" - Sunni Patterson

Emerging from the musical womb that is New Orleans, Sunni Patterson combines the heritage and tradition of her native town with an enlightened modern world view to create music and poetry that is timeless in its groove. Sunni has been a featured performer at the many of the nation's premier spoken word venues, including HBO's Def Poetry Jam and BET's Lyric Cafe. She has appeared at the Panafest in Ghana, West Africa and other international stages. Sunni has been honored with several awards, including two NUSPA awards (National Underground Spoken Word Poetry Awards) for The Most Inspirational Poet in 2010 and 2011. She also received the Eve Ensler V to the Tenth Anti Violence Movement Award for her work with Gulfcoast women and girls.
