Coal: our nation's dirtiest energy source produces soot, heavy metals, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. Across the country, 491 coal-fired power plants emit 78,367 pounds of mercury each year. Check out Sierra Club's Toxic Mercury Map and get more information about the risk to Connecticut residents. Click HERE to see metrics for the Bridgeport Station.

Healthy Connecticut Alliance is a group of concerned Bridgeport and Connecticut residents who are calling for PSEG to retire the Harbor Station plant. We envision a healthy and sustainable future for Bridgeport communities: a future that is 'beyond coal.'
- Negative health effects from burning coal
- Bridgeport: 4th dirtiest city in the U.S. according to a Forbes 2012 report
- Bridgeport families deserve a healthy place to live, work, play, worship and go to school.
- The Harbor Station is Connecticut’s last remaining coal-fired power plant.
- Retiring the power plant will make us a coal-free state!
The Healthy CT Alliance - includes a variety of organizations including Sierra Club, 350 CT, and Connecticut Fund for the Environment - is working to support redevelopment efforts for the Bridgeport Harbor Station coal fired power plant site, as well as a just transition for the coal plant's employees.
