Snakebites in Veterinary Medicine

Confused about the new rattlesnake vaccination protocols?  What is the dose dependency of venom, vaccine, and volume of distribution (dog weight/size)?  The presentation will also cover the following topics:  Snake bite risks and problems, indication of rattlesnake vaccine, rattlesnake vaccine basics and protocol, safety and potential side effects, latest data on efficacy of the vaccine including both laboratory test results and clinical surveys, special situations that limit the effectiveness of the vaccine, snake species cross protection efficacy information, snake bite treatment considerations, and information on other products under development by Red Rock Biologics. 

snake biteDr. Ibsen received her degree in veterinary medicine from U.C Davis in 1990.  She has over 13 years of experience as managing partner with Dave's Animal Hospital and has been working for R ed Rock Biologics since 2005.

Fleas, Ticks, and Vector Borne Diseases

fleaA recent wave of new flea & tick products has hit the veterinary market, and pharmaceutical companies are advertising heavily to consumers.  Become familiar with all of the active ingredients and their effects, including insect growth regulators.  Dr. Blagburn instructs first, third, and fourth-year students of veterinary medicine, directs graduate student research, and serves as director of the clinical parasitology diagnostic. Dr. Blagburn received the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence in 1987.  Dr. Blagburn is the 2001 recipient of the American Association of Veterinary Parasitiologist’s Distinguished Veterinary Parasitologist Award. He is also a 2003 recipient of the Auburn University Student Government Association “Teacher of the Year” Award.

Dr. Blagburn’s research incorporates aspects of both basic and applied veterinary parasitology,  including parasitic helminthes (heartworm and gastrointestinal species) and arthropods (particularly fleas, ticks and tick-borne diseases). Among tick borne diseases, the infectious agents of interest include Borrelia burgdorferi, Erhlichia spp, and Anaplasma spp.

Flea Allergy Dermatitis & Insect Hypersensitivity

Frustrated by fleas?  Which flea products are best for hypersensitive pets?  What about all of the new products that recently came to market?  What's new in the treatment and medical management of pets with insect hypersensitivities?  Dr. Logas address will these questions that we all face daily (hourly??) and bring us up to speed on what's new in flea allerg dermatitis and insect hypersensitivity (including horses).

Dr. Logas is a 1986 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. After three years in private practice, Dr. Logas decided to specialize in Dermatology and became an American College of Veterinary Dermatologists diplomate in 1992.  Dr. Logas remained at the University of Florida as a part-time assistant professor for several years, and in 1993 she opened the Veterinary Dermatology Center in Orlando, FL.
