Event Details

This presentation will help healthcare providers, mental health workers, and the general public respond to the problem of suicide and emotional trauma in their communities.

Local city and county mayors will present Suicide Prevention Awareness Month proclamations. The winner of this year’s Regional Suicide Prevention Award will also be announced. Debbie Jones, a local survivor of suicide, and Vervie Moses, a suicide attempt survivor and a veteran, will discuss how they recovered from personal tragedy and began providing hope to others.

Michael LaBonte of the Memphis Crisis Center will demonstrate 1) how to recognize and respond effectively to a suicide crisis and 2) how to link those at risk to community resources and professional care.

Kelli H. Davis, Director of the Grief & Trauma Resolution at Lakeside Behavioral Health System, will talk about the clinical definition of trauma and PTSD, as well as the difference between processed and unprocessed trauma. She will discuss abreactions and secondary gains to unprocessed traumas and explain the value of emotional resourcing in trauma response.

The event includes a continental breakfast. 2.5 contact hours are available for participants who stay for the entire event. 2.5 CEUs are available from the University of Tennessee-Martin at a cost of $20.
