Description

Description of Workshop - Suicide Intevention - Core Training for CHF Funded Agencies

This program is designed to assist front line workers and supervisors with knowledge of self-harm and suicidal behaviours. The workshop will help to differentiate between self-harm and suicide as well as look at the ways in which they are also common. It will look at why these behaviours exist, how they can emerge and the risks associated with them. In addition, participants will learn about intervention and prevention techniques.

Participants can expect to grow existing skills by engaging actively in the class through case examples and case problem solving exercises.

Facilitator(s) Dr. Peter Choate is a Registered Social Worker and Member of the Clinical Registry and Approved Clinical Supervisor for the Alberta College of Registered Social Workers. Dr. Choate has been in clinical private practice focusing on addictions and family relationships. He completes parenting capacity, addiction and sexual and violence risk assessments in child protection matters. He appears frequently in the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Court of Queen’s Bench as an expert witness.
