When asked, most people will describe themselves as being a "tough" negotiator. What they really mean is that when they are in a position of power, they try to exploit it to their full advantage. It's easy to negotiate when you hold all the cards. In fact, often you don't negotiate, you dictate. What about when the party on the other side of the table is bigger and stronger than you? Is it hopeless? Or can preparation lead to coming out on top? 

Negotiation is a skill that can be learned. This presentation will help you to:

- Turn your seemingly inferior negotiating position into an advantage.
- Understand how the "superior" party prepares in advance of a negotiation session; what you are, and aren't, up against.
- Learn how to effectively analyze the other side prior to commencing a negotiation. 
- Learn how to prepare your side for the negotiation including outcome-setting, role assignments and potential alternative paths.
- Appreciate the difference between selling and negotiating; difference between haggling & negotiating...confusion can be fatal especially against large adversaries.

Our speaker Brent Hamachek spent the first 15 years of his professional career working in the banking industry. He began as a bank examiner for the US Department of Treasury, migrated into internal audit and loan review, then moved into community banking where he built two credit departments from the ground up and ultimately moved into commercial lending.

Since leaving banking in 2000, Brent has successfully managed his own consulting practice specializing in transitional business situations, and sophisticated problem solving. He has sat at the desk of CEO, CFO and head of sales. He has been involved in starting companies, turning around companies, selling companies and buying companies. He has raised private equity and bank debt in excess of $30,000,000. He has consistently been able to get individuals and companies to enter into unique arrangements outside of their normal business paradigm. Brent has handled significant transactions with such companies as Pepsi, Himmel Nutrition (Ovaltine), SoBe, Walgreens, Medline Industries, Kimberly Clark, Ballys and Careington International.
