“It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to
make a portrait of who they are.” – Paul Caponigro
Successful portraits are timeless and capture the essence of an individual. Learn how to work with your subject and communicate through lighting to create masterful portraits. In this Studio Style Series Workshop, we will go over some lighting equipment and light modifiers, as well as teach you tricks for flattering lighting, glamour lighting vs. hard lighting, how to make your subject feel at ease and tips for personalizing your portraits. Your Organizer, Dawn, will be your model for this Studio Portraiture Workshop and as an added bonus for the Spring season, she is issuing a photo challenge for this Workshop. One lucky winner will have a chance to win a free Workshop if he/she can take a flattering portrait (head shot, 3/4 shot, or full body shot) of Dawn using what they learn in the Workshop.
Requirements: Bring your camera and a pen and a notebook to take notes. You must submit some of your finished photos to the organizer to give to the model as part of their compensation.
About the Presenter:
The language of photography intrigues me. I find it to be superior to words in expressing ideas and communicating the subtext within individual stories. And the photographic story that interests me is fashion. Through fashion photography I explore concepts and reveal the depth and breath of beauty. I use movement, color and light to express the uniqueness of design, garments and people. The people I work with become part of the photographic story and, in essence, part of its larger concept. I don't distinguish between commercial photography and art. With this in mind, I apply a fine art aesthetic to each photograph I take. My style ranges from edgy to ethereal and is always provocative. I am fortunate for the opportunity to combine beauty, art and commerce, and I work closely with each client to help make their vision a reality. Anne-Michele Mallory lives and works in NYC.
