Course Overview

ADInstruments is excited to sponsor this hands-on instructor development workshop with host Eckerd College.  Benefiting from a first rate laboratory space and a focused two day agenda of learning, this summer training event is not to be missed by anyone with interest in computer-based laboratory learning.  

For educators of all levels seeking strategy on the latest browser-based student laboratory methods, this intensive course condenses all the need-to-know skills and information into a sensible plan you can apply to any student laboratory setting. 

  • Step-by-step how-to sessions with special guest presenters.
  • Hands on experimentation with focus on proven college level human and animal student coursework.
  • Benefit from instruction on the entire suite of ADInstruments software offerings and walk away with a broader perspective on protocol design and course development.
  • Group size is limited to 12 attendees to allow for plenty of one-on-one interaction.
  • Network with educators and discover what works and what doesn't work int he ever-changing discipline of science instruction.
Who should attend:

ADInstruments has hosted professional development courses to hundreds of higher education life science instructors.  Over many years, our education product team developed the Student Laboratory Techniques course to ensure every attendee is provided a thorough educator-focused PowerLab overview in a span of two intensive days of learning.  If you're using or want to use computers to collect data in the lab with students, this course is for you!

  • New or novice PowerLab users that would benefit from hands-on laboratory coaching delivering practical, easily applied methods for running student exercises.
  • Educators transitioning into new teaching roles or responsibilities seeking to shortcut the computer-based data recording learning curve.
  • Those responsible for curriculum development looking for inspiration and guidance from instructors with experimental design experience. 
Student Laboratory Techniques for the Educator Series
  • Those interested in building on their knowledge of recording, visualizing and analyzing data using PowerLab hardware and software over summer break.
  • Step-by-step how-to sessions with special guest presenters.
Targeted training will help you unlock the full potential of your equiptment and instruction.  Develop new laboratory skills alongside like-minded peers in a comfortable and supportive environment.  
If there is a specific topic you woud like to cover outside of this schedule, one-on-one coaching sessions will be available.  The agenda below is representative of the standard schedule but subject matter and times may change.  A detailed event schedule will be provided to registrants before the event.  

Topics will include;
  • Introduction to Data Acqusition: LabChart
  • LabChart Human Experiments
  • Introduction to LabTutor teaching suite
  • LabTutor Human Experiments
  • Introduction to LabAuthor
  • Advanced LabAuthor applications
  • Build your own LabTutor experiment

*Bring your favorite experiment to adapt to use the latest version of LabChart or LabTutor.  Bring an electronic copy of your protocol (word, rtf. etc.), multi-media (movies, PowerPoint, graphics, etc.), and leave with a ready-to-use experiment for your course!
Workshop will take place at the Center for Molecular and Life Sciences located at Eckerd College.
Terms and Conditions:
*Training may be cancelled or rescheduled by Instructor due to adverse weather, low class enrollment, catastrophic event or for other reasons.  All registrants will be notifed at least 30 days before the event and course registration fees will be fully refunded should course be cancelled.  

*Course cancellations must be received prior to 30 days before the start date of the event to receive a full refund. No-show's and late cancellations will be charged the full event price.
