It is with great zeal that we invite you and a delegation of young men from your learning community to the 8th Annual Gathering of Leaders Conference, scheduled for April 24-26, 2014 at Jackson State University (JSU), in Jackson, Mississippi. In preparation for our gathering, we are excited about the dynamic student itinerary that we are planning for the boys and young men from across the country that will be in attendance this year.
The theme for this year’s gathering is; Onward and Upward! Advancing the Affirmative Development of Boys and Young Men of Color. What better theme to acknowledge the vision, courage, sacrifice and resilience of our ancestors and elders who boldly encountered some of the most horrendous obstacles in the noble pursuit of freedom, justice, equality and educational equity for people of color.
The student conference will provide opportunity for the young men to be engaged and network with each other. Additionally, the following activities have been planned for the youth participants:
· Comprehensive workshops
· College Tours of Jackson State University and Tougaloo College
· Smith Robertson Museum and Civil Rights Tour
· A variety of other activities that include spoken word, basketball tournament and documentaries
Breakfast and Lunch is included!
We are able to accommodate 100 young men so be sure to register early. We look forward to embarking on this journey together!
