General Conference Objectives:

  • Timely recognition and treatment of stroke.
  • Provide appropriate and timely referral of stroke patients.
  • Discuss rehab options with patients to develop a solid plan of care.


7:30 – 8:00      Registration and breakfast.

8:00 – 9:00      Defining Stroke
                        Muhammad Akhtar, MD

      • Identify stroke symptoms
      • Provide timely treatment and appropriate stroke referral
      • Discuss stroke treatment options

9:00 - 9:15       Break and visit Vendor Booths

9:15– 10:15     Advance Treatment of Stroke
                        Diana Greene-Chandos, MD

      • Identify new treatment options
      • Provide interventions beyond typical stroke timelines
      • Recognize treatment options for Hemorrhage Strokes

 10:15– 11:15  Acute Rehab - Discharge Planning Process 
                       Kristy Bockrath, OT

      • Explain the Rehab Continuum from inpatient to home
      • Identify the roles of the therapy team
      • Identify key considerations in choosing optimal Rehab services


11:15 - 12:15  Dietary Modifications for Stroke
                        Kyra Schloenbach, M.A., CCC-SLP    

      • Discuss information regarding anatomy and physiology of the swallow, penetration, and aspiration.
      • Verbalize understanding of roles and responsibilities of speech-language pathologists and define texture modifications option individual with dysphagia.
      • Identify members of the patient feeding/eating team and what role they play in patient’s well-being.
      • Identify treatments and strategies following identification of aspiration/swallowing dysfunction.

Adena Health System is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Adena Health System designates this educational activity for 4  AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.


4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits are applicable toward continuing education for nursing licensure.

Adena Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing education by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, RSX 118902. This session has been approved for 4 Social Worker CEU.


Adena Health System designates this education activity for a maximum of 4 CE credits. Adena Health System has applied for 4 OPTA , OT PTAT, and Speech Therapist CEU hours.
