Event Details

We’re all about stories in PR. But stories and storytelling aren’t the same thing. We know that storytelling is critical to the persuasion that is the basis of what we do for our clients and employers. So why aren’t we more successful at it?

Telling stories to communicate and persuade is at the heart of all business activity. We tell stories to persuade audiences to buy our products or services, to explain to employees and colleagues what our strategic plan is, to communicate with investors, analysts and the media about our stock, our new products and what our mission is. But despite the critical importance of storytelling in communication, many of us struggle to with it. We have trouble communicating our stories, much less make them inspiring. Too often, we get lost in the bog of PowerPoint slides, formulaic news releases, and overworked statements vetted and sanitized by corporate executives and legal counsel until the story is lost. Even our most creative and carefully planned efforts are routinely dismissed or greeted with skepticism.

Jon Ratliff

Jon Ratliff, Vice President at Prairie Dog|TCG will be flying in from Kansas City to share with us his winning approach to storytelling—how to find your story’s heroes and villains, frame their journey and bring it to a dramatic conclusion.

Jon Ratliff is Public Relations Vice President at Prairie Dog|TCG and has spent the last 16 years in the PR agency world. Since 1985, Jon has led award-winning teams for clients in healthcare, non-profit, higher education and more. His more than two decades in journalism and public relations help him develop and drive successful PR campaigns on behalf of healthcare clients, not-for-profits, higher education and others. Clients know him as a public relations strategist who enhances relationships between their brands and their audiences.

Before joining Prairie Dog/TCG, Jon worked in journalism as a reporter and editor at a community newspaper and for two professional organizations. In public relations, he has led teams that have done award-winning work across a number of industries.

Jon earned his APR in 2000 and has served in a variety of board positions for the Kansas City Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, including board president. He has spoken on storytelling most recently at the PRSA Midwest District Conference in Omaha. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska.

Evening includes Program, Dinner, Dessert, and non-alcoholic beverages, along with networking with some of the Suburb's friendliest PR pros.
