Have a drink & learn from great storytellers!

In our community of changing the world, story is crucial. Having an incredible story and narrative can make or break an idea. Stories & Beer is a monthly series at HUB Berkeley where changemakers can gather in a casual, comfortable setting and learn how great companies and organizations use the power of story to transform and amplify their idea.

Come join us at HUB Berkeley on Thursday evening, March 28th, as Triple Pundit chats with Mike Hannigan from Give Something Back & Jeff Mendelsohn from New Leaf Paper about their stories that have kept them committed to their missions from the start.

Schedule:

6:30 - 7:00 - beers, apps, and networking
7:00 - 8:00 - fireside chat and Q&A
8:00 - 8:30 - networking

Mike Hannigan, Founder and President of Give Something Back

Mike Hannigan was born in Pensacola Florida. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from U.C. San Diego and his M.A. in Criminology from U.C. Berkeley. He began work for the Xerox corporation and built his career in management for business products companies for the next decade until starting GSB.

Says Hannigan, "I was active in the usual social movements of the late '60s and '70s, and although I was very successful as a businessperson, I was never really comfortable in that role and never happy unless I was involved in some type of community political activism. I approached Sean Marx with the idea of forming a company that would combine our business skills and our values. We saw an opportunity to use the power of business to further the goals of community service through funding non profit organizations. We started the company in 1991 with $20,000 each from our savings and started making sales calls from my living room."

Jeff Mendelsohn - Founder of New Leaf Paper

Jeff Mendelsohn founded and built New Leaf Paper into one of the most well recognized businesses in North America with a 100% commitment to sustainability. He created the first positive vision for the paper industry integrating the principles of sustainability (called Pulp Non-Fiction), and led by example with New Leaf Paper. Jeff pioneered a collaborative business model to create a sustainable supply chain, working in partnership with customers and vendors over the full lifecycle of paper. Through a series of major, environmentally leading product innovations, he developed a new market within the paper industry for truly sustainable products - inspiring the largest paper companies to enter this market and shift their business practices.

Jeff actively contributed to the growth of the sustainable business community over the last 20 years through public speaking, guest lecturing at leading business schools, and ongoing engagement in sustainable business forums such as Social Venture Network. He established New Leaf Paper as one of the Founding B Corporations, signing the B Corporation Declaration of Interdependence in 2007.

Nick Aster, Triple Pundit
