Event Details

Learn how to move beyond mobility through assessing and correcting common movement deficiencies in CrossFitters with Dr. Perry Nickelston of Stop Chasing Pain. Dr. Perry will outline the template he uses for assessing athletes, discuss his integrative assessment patterns and will also unpack his system for beginning the healing process for many common injuries CrossFitters experience. He will focus on noting poor recruitment patterns in difficult movements within CrossFit, with specific attention to the Overhead Squat as a litmus test for other potential movement problems athletes may encounter.

This seminar is appropriate for athletes of all types, coaches, personal trainers, and movement specialists of all types.

Attendees will leave the seminar better prepared to recognize faulty movement patterns via the Overhead Squat and include rehabilitative movements in their training to address common postural concerns.

" I visited Dr. Perry to fix nagging pain in my shoulder from a prior sports injury. After his diagnosis, manual therapy and movement prescription, my pain has dramatically lessened. It's amazing how I'd gotten used to constant pain during the most minute daily tasks (like brushing my teeth), and now I'm able to include muscle-ups and handstand push-ups in my training without crippling shoulder pain. He's like a magician!"

-Emily, CrossFit Coach, Regionals-level competitive CrossFit athlete

“Dr. Perry can identify movement flaws through simple assessments with quick precision. In my own case, he was able to alleviate my low back pain by having me “turn off” an overactive muscle, then “turn on” underactive muscles. Without his insight, I wouldn’t have been able to fix my problem. He would be the first person I would see if I had another ache or pain."

- Tim, CrossFit Coach and competitive CrossFit athlete

"You know when you have a feeling something is just "not right" but you're not sure how you know or what exactly the problem is? Dr. Perry figures that out for you. He validates your experience and gives you immediate, practical ways to alleviate your pain and increase your mobility and strength."

-Cait, CrossFit athlete

"I visited Dr. Perry to address some recent pain I'd been experiencing during strength training (specifically, squatting) in addition to some nagging shoulder pain that, while mild, was annoying to constantly program around. His assessment of my movement and diagnosis of an overactive diaphragm (!) in addition to non-functioning glutes was a huge shock to me! His diagnosis combined with specific instructions on how to release my overactive diaphragm AND recruit the muscles that are actually supposed to be supporting me has made a huge difference in my pain as I ramp my strength training back up to normal."

-Meghan, CrossFit/Olympic Lifting athlete

"I 'd been experiencing crippling lower back pain after an injury that occurred at one of the worst possible times in my training season. After nearly three months of repeated visits to massage therapists, living with an icepack attached to my back, and reducing my training volume to almost nothing, with no change in my pain levels, I made an appointment with Dr. Perry. In less than an hour, he assessed my movement and my injury, told me that the entire right half of my body was exhausted from over-compensating for the muted muscle groups on my left, and was able immediately take my pain away through manual therapy. I was sent home with a movement prescription designed to address my muscular imbalances, and I was able to immediately return to training, with no modifications in movement or volume."

- Morgan, competitive CrossFit athlete
