On May 16, 2012, Stoked will host its fifth annual Stoked on Spring auction and benefit at the
Scholastic Greenhouse in SoHo. The evening will include a silent auction of contemporary art, youth photography, and artist and youth collaborative skateboard decks; online auction of unique items and experiences; top-shelf open bar; hors d'oeuvres; live DJs; and access to the Scholastic Building’s rooftop terrace.
Stoked on Spring 2012 will exhibit contemporary artwork by established and emerging artists,
and design collaborations between Stoked youth and professional artists, art directors, and creative directors on skateboard decks built by youth in the Stoked Plus: Skateboard Build after-school program. The contemporary art and collaborative skate decks will be exhibited for silent auction bidding exclusively at the event. Stoked on Spring will also feature an online auction of unique items and experiences that will be open for bidding to the public. All funds generated by the on-site silent auction, online auction, ticket sales, and donations made at the event will directly support Stoked's after-school Stoked Plus: Skateboard Build program in New York City, which teaches youth how to build their own skateboards from scratch without using power tools and life skills such as time management, project planning, and teamwork, earning them high school credit.
When & Where
STOKED’s mission is to promote personal development, academic achievement, and healthy living to under-served youth through action sports culture. STOKED was founded in 2005 by Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela, host of the X Games, on the belief that the courage and perseverance needed to learn how to skateboard, snowboard, and surf would be an ideal way to teach those life skills to youth from disadvantaged urban communities. STOKED operates in both New York City and Los Angeles, and has developed partnerships with a vast array of public schools and other non-profit organizations to reach its intended population.
