In this session, we will begin by identifying poorly performing queries and examining their execution plans. Once we’ve identified our targets, we’ll identify what’s wrong with the execution plans, commonly used (or misused) techniques to address those issues and a discussion about the various indexing techniques available to you to maximize performance including but not limited to design, compression and filtered indexes.
With 15 years of experience, Microsoft Technology Expert, Steve Abraham, holds 9 Microsoft certifications and attained all but one of the certifications within the span of 19 days in May of 2007 – passing all tests on the first attempt. The SQL Server 2008 exam was also passed on the first attempt but at a later date.
Along with having the above certifications, Steve has been called on by Microsoft to contribute to the development of 9 Microsoft certifications covering SQL Server and ASP.NET. He has participated as a consultant to Microsoft in writing the objective domain, writing exam questions, reviewing other subject matter experts’ exam questions as well as helped set the pass / fail criteria for multiple exams. Most recently, Steve participated in the creation of 2 new exams covering the new Denali SQL Server release.
Steve has also presented at the VBUG developers conference on the Microsoft campus in Reading, UK. Steve is also a contributing author on Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Technical Reference Guide and SQL Server 2008 Deployment Guide. Steve has been developing Microsoft based software for 14 years. Steve specializes in SQL Server and .Net Framework architecture, high availability, capacity planning, development, and performance tuning.
Steve has led teams for some of the biggest and best known companies and organizations many of them dealing with mission critical data and in crisis situations including the U.S. State Department, Eddie Bauer, 1-800-Flowers and Hasbro.
He is currently the co-owner and CTO of MB2x, a software development company in Tampa, FL. He is also a guest lecturer at the University of South Florida and enjoys mentoring up-and-coming developer interns.
In Steve’s spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family in Tampa, FL.

Our meetings are free and open to the public. The doors open at 6:00 pm and food arrives shortly after that allowing time to grab something to eat and networking with your peers. This is a secure building so you will need to check in with the guard before proceeding upstairs. The meeting will start at 6:30 with announcements and open floor discussions followed by the speaker for the night.
