Drawing on sources as diverse as dubstep and Appalachian murder ballads, The Wholehearted uses text, choreography, and live-feed projection to explore the contradictory nature of truth. Suli Holum, nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her performance in "Chimera", plays a proud but unreliable former champion reliving her glory days in a run-down boxing gym, dreaming of a comeback.
Suli and her team, Deborah Stein, Polly Carl (dramaturg), Mimi Lien (set design), James Sugg (sound design and original songs), Imaginary Media (video), Oana Botez (costumes), and Stephen Arnold (lights) come to KST for a residency to develop the work to premiere next year.
