Startup Weekend EDU: New School Models

Do you have ideas about how school should be changed that you want to see put into action?  Do you like challenging long-standing assumptions about “how things are”?  If so, Startup Weekend EDU:  New School Models is for you. This weekend will be an exciting, fast-paced 54 hours of rethinking schooling and designing schools of the future.

We’re looking for passionate educators, parents, students, entrepreneurs, developers and designers who want to make a difference in education now.  Come join a team committed to rethinking how schools are done so we can help all students get a better education

The event:  We bring together a diverse group of people passionate about making a positive impact on education.  In 54 hours, participants share ideas, form teams, and build new models for schools.  Unlike other startup weekends, the result of this weekend won’t be a tech product, but rather a new school model that radically transforms the traditional approach to learning. The event hinges on participants creating a “core innovation” that improves on a central element of schools (e.g. Why should the school day be delineated by a number of fixed periods?  Why should there always be one teacher in front of 30 students?).

On Friday night, anyone can make a 60 second pitch for their idea for reinventing schools.  That night, teams will come together around these ideas - a core innovation to schools -  and over the course of the weekend develop a new school model to improve education. On Sunday, the weekend culminates with final presentations and pitches in front of a panel of esteemed judges.

Here's some of the things you get from attending:
+ A free .co domain name
+ $2,000 of credit on Google App Engine
+ 50 free moo.com business cards
+ Awesome coaching by education industry leaders
+ Fun swag from Google, .Co and more!
+ Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole weekend
