Startup Quest is an entrepreneurship training program for out of work, degree-holding professionals, in Northeast Florida. The program, one of the first of its kind in the U.S., is a partnership between Florida Works, the University of Florida, the JAX Chamber and WorkSource.
“Startup Quest will drive economic transformation by providing opportunities for entrepreneurs, innovators and the investment community to assess and develop the commercial potential of new ideas,” said Bruce Ferguson, CEO atWorkSource (First Coast Workforce Development, Inc.). “Startup Quest is a great example of how workforce programs can impact the 21st century economy. We are confident this program will eventually lead to job growth and employment in our region.”
Under- or unemployed persons with at least a bachelor's degree who have registered with WorkSource for job seeking assistance in the past year. If you have not updated your WorkSource information please contact your local WorkSource Case Manager. There is no cost to participate for eligible and selected participants.

While some programs target seniors, others serve people of all ages. One such program is Start-Up Quest, which helps unemployed people of all ages who are college graduates learn to start businesses. Kinsey’s experience in Start-Up Quest led him to form a team that has started a new venture, North Florida Medical Solutions. Two of Kinsey’s three partners in the business were on his team that worked on a business planning exercise through Start-Up Quest.
Kinsey was receiving unemployment compensation when FloridaWorks representatives contacted him about Start-Up Quest. “At first, I wasn’t all that interested in it, but they kept bugging me,” he says. Kinsey praises the support he’s gotten through Start-Up Quest. “It’s been lots of fun to network with an incredible group of people,” he says. He had tried other business ventures in the past, but he couldn’t get them off the ground. “Now I’ve learned how to write a business plan, find a manufacturer and create marketing material,” he says. “I’ve never been surrounded by so many motivated people.” (...read more on page 19)
StartupQuest is part of an evaluation study funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Workforce Innovation Fund. Participants will be selected from among eligible applicants. Data collected will remain confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only. Startup Quest is an equal opportunity program.
