Join us December 4 as we welcome Paul Ahlstrom, author, entrepreneur, educator, investor.
Paul Ahlstrom is an entrepreneur, investor, and author, who focused the majority of his career on the early-stage startup process. Paul has raised over $840 million over the last 12 years in investment funds in the US and Mexico. He recently moved back to the US with his family and opened an investment office for Alta Group in Lehi Utah.
Prior to Alta Ventures Mexico, Paul co-founded vSpring Capital (2000), Kickstart Seed Fund (2007), and Alta Growth Capital (2008). As a serial entrepreneur Paul has founded and invested in more than 100 startup companies. Some of the companies Paul has invested in include Ancestry.com (public), Globalsim (sold to Kongsberg Maritime), Senforce (sold to Novell), Altiris (went public then sold to Symantec), RhoMobile (sold to Motorola Solutions), Aeroprise (sold to BMC), The American Academy, Juxta Labs, Convert.com (Playa del Carmen Mexico), Mural.ly (Buenos Aires Argentina) and Diverza (Monterrey Mexico).
Paul also founded multiple startups including Knowlix in 1997, which raised capital in 1998 and was sold to Peregrin Systems in 1999. Peregrin Systems was later sold to Hewlett Packard.
BYU’s eRollins center counts Mr. Ahlstrom as a founding advisory board member. He is also a founder of BYU’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology and is a mentor for the Endeavor Mexico and ELACE E+E mentor entrepreneur organizations in Mexico. Paul serves on the executive committee and board of the University of Utah’s Technology Commercialization Office, which ranks as number one in spinouts from universities in the United States.
In 2011 Paul and co-author Nathan Furr published "Nail It Then Scale It" as a guide to help all entrepreneurs understand “the timeless principles and key practices used by successful entrepreneurs to repeatedly innovate.”

After his studies, Kyle does business development for Ferevo, a mobile advertising startup that specializes in relevant advertising solutions.

Derek Andersen - Founder of Startup Grind
Derek is the Founder of Startup Grind. He previously worked at Electronic Arts on games like The Godfather, Burnout, and Mirror’s Edge. He left in 2009 to found Vaporware Labs, a company that shipped products like Startup Grind and Commonred (acquired by Income.com). He is a guest author for TechCrunch and Business Insider. He lives with his wife and two boys in Palo Alto California.
