Six hysterical and critically-acclaimed comedians will take to the stage Nov. 4 for the third annual “Stand Up And Ride It: A Night of Comedy to Fight AIDS,” red carpet event to benefit this year’s SMART Ride 10. The event begins at 7 p.m. (show begins at 8pm) and takes place at our new venue, The Plaza Bistro restaurant, 2900 Belmar Street, Fort Lauderdale Beach.
All proceeds from the event will go to SMART Ride, a two-day (Nov. 15-16), 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West. This is the tenth year for the Ride, which has raised more than $4 million for six HIV/AIDS organizations throughout Florida. Each year, hundreds of riders take part in the SMART Ride.
The “Stand Up And Ride It” comedy show will feature local and nationally-recognized comedians, along with headliner Lisa Corrao (Nick Jr, Comedy Central’s SOBE Comedy Festival, ‘The Jerk Show’). A full bar, $10 appetizers and flatbreads, and over $2,000 in raffle items and giveaways will be available at the show. The event is organized by five-time SMART Ride participant Andy Lauer.
“At a time when HIV/AIDS funding continues to be slashed due to state budgetary constraints, we were eager to create an event that compliments and benefits the vital work of the SMART Ride,” said Lauer. “The ‘Stand Up And Ride It’ comedy show serves as an additional avenue for which the community can come together to help those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. This year's show is being held in memory of friend and SMART Ride teammate, Jim Bowman, who we lost in September."
