Sharon Bladholm, owner of Opal Glass Studios for over 30 years, will go over the best ways to clean, restore, preserve and protect stained glass panels and light fixtures. She will demonstrate the 3 methods which stained glass panels are created with, lead and zinc, channel and the copper foil technique. She will also demonstrate basics of how glass is cut and discuss all the steps that are included in making a window, design, patterns, cutting glass, fabricating window, and installation.
She will show a power point that shows samples of both new stained glass and restoration projects she has been involved with, working with restoration firms such as Bauer and Latoza on the Morton Arboretum Historic Library, and the Conservation Center on the Adler Mansion in Lake Forest that included recreating cast glass acanthus leaves and door molding, beveled glass, wheel cut glassand antique mirror re-silvering. She will also show samples of her own stained glass designs, including elaborate panels based on the natural world and more stylized architectural projects. Plus a set of large exterior light fixtures that she designed and fabricated that include cast bronze, slumped glass and fabricated copper.
