Spiritually-Intergrated Psychotherapy from a Family Systems Perspective
Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM (MDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
The purpose of this course is to educate students about how diverse spiritual traditions impact and define clients’ experiences of presenting problems and how to draw on these traditions to aid methods of treatment. It is designed to provide students a beginning introduction to spiritually-integrated psychotherapy from a family systems perspective, as well as help students navigate issues of culture and diversity related to client and practitioner spirituality. Drawing on the work of Ken Pargament and Froma Walsh, the course examines definitions of spirituality and religion, and explores spiritually-sensitive assessment skills and interventions within a bio-psycho-social framework, for treatment of common presenting problems that seek understanding of, and draw on client’s spiritual and religious resources. The course underlines and respects the diversity of spiritualties, and will highlight diversity and cultural issues related to spiritual traditions and practices. In this course, students will gain self-awareness and learn how their own beliefs and spiritual perspective affects their world view and professional sense of self. The activities of this class will emphasize dialogue, reflection, exploration and will include experiential learning.
This is a 5 week course meeting every Wednesday from 8-2 beginning July 16th (Ending August 13)
