HubMasters in association with Golden Gate Toastmasters and Impact Hub Bay Area is thrilled to invite you to SpeechCraft: How to Become an Effective Public Speaker: a 2-day intensive workshop where you will learn the fundamentals of public speaking and take your speaking to the next level.
We will discuss topics such as:
- Dealing with fear of public speaking
- Structuring and organizing your presentation for maximum impact
- Moving on stage to enhance your message
- Body language and stance (what to do with those arms)
- Using your voice to add meaning, interest and excitement to your presentation
- Finding the right words and avoiding the wrong ones
- Creating powerful openings and strong conclusions
- Adding humor to your presentations
- Telling stories to make your presentations more memorable
The workshop consists of highly engaging, interactive lectures and group breakout sessions where you get to practice what you have learned. Everybody will prepare and present several 2-3 minute speeches in small groups of 6-7 people. Each group will have 2 experienced mentors that will be helping you prepare your speech as well as provide feedback after each presentation.
Coffee and tea will be served in the morning, and we will provide lunch for everyone both days. We will have fruits and snacks available throughout the day.
This awesome event will take place upstairs at The Hub SoMa on Saturday February 8th and Sunday February 9th.

Some of our speakers include:
Cody Cotulla taught traffic school, and was a professional stand-up comedian for six years performing at bars and comedy clubs across the country. After a 15 year hiatus from performing, Cody joined Toastmasters and found his way back to the comedy stage. In his two years as Toastmaster, Cody is a three time District Speech Competition Finalist, placing third in both the humorous and tall fales competitions. Cody is passionate about comedy and public speaking.
Kristian Crump has been a Toastmaster since 2006 in his home club of Bayview Toastmastets in Monterey. Since then he has held the offices of President, VP of Education, VP of Membership, VP of Public Relations, and Secretary. He is also a member of two other local Toastmaster clubs, Peninsula Professionals, an advanced club focused on excellent speech evaluation. He helped charter California State University Monterey Bay Toastmasters. Kristian regularly competes in speech contests and is a three time District champion in speech evaluation. He currently delivers public speaking presentation seminars to local university campuses and not-for-profit organizations.
Distinguished Toastmaster Tony DeLeon has been a Toastmaster since June of 2001. He has held various club officer roles for his home club – San Mateo Toastmasters. Stepping outside the club, Tony has continuously served in District 4 leadership roles since 2004 having been an Area Governor, Division Governor, Public Relation Officer, Lt Governor Marketing and District Governor where District 4 achieved Distinguished Status. Tony has continued to serve the district as an advisor to many of the leaders in District 4 and continues his involvement in helping new clubs form and officers training. Tony is an analytical chemist for a water treatment firm in Burlingame and his Toastmasters experience helps him communicate more effectively with his co-workers and clients.
Kirsten Johnson is a Life Coach, Meditation Teacher & Speaker. She provides guidance, tools and inspiration to help people overcome fear. When & Where
Hubmasters, is an official Toastmasters club that follows the Toastmasters guidelines but puts a little bit of an entrepreneurial spin on it!
Hubmasters meet every Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.00pm at The Hub SoMa.
The club is open to anyone. The overall theme of the club is inspired by The Hub with a focus on social change and social entrepreneurship.
