STC Rochester Heritage Award in honor of Edline Chun
STC Rochester announces the formation of the Chapter Heritage Award in honor of Edline Chun. Continuing in the tradition of the Ralph P. Kepner Scholarship Award, this award aims to encourage and reward excellence in technical communication by students in area colleges and high schools. Donations to the Heritage Award can be made here via Eventbrite, or in person at Spectrum 2014.

Conference Schedule

Leadership Day (Sunday, April 13) 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 

  • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. Registration
  • 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. Leadership Sessions
  • A half-day of leadership training
  • Presentations and workshops by experienced STC community and international leaders
  • Designed for anyone interested in improving leadership skills, including current and future leaders.
  • Discounted with combined attendance, or attend as a standalone event.

 

Speaker Dinner and Opening Reception (Sunday, April 13) 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Registration
  • 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Speaker Dinner/Reception (Radisson Hotel Airport Rochester)
  • Discounted with combined attendance, or attend as a standalone event.

 

Full-day Conference (Monday, April 14) 8:30 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.

  • Registration check-in begins at 7:15 a.m.
  • Continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon refreshments, and networking
  • Welcome and Keynote Address
  • A full-day of progressions, lightning talks, vendor demos, and raffles/giveaways
  • Summit tech pubs competition awards presented at luncheon

 

Marcia Riefer Johnson

This year we feature keynote speaker Marcia Riefer Johnston. When Marcia was twelve, "American Girl" magazine printed her eight-paragraph story, "The Key," and paid her $15. She has been writing ever since.

She studied under Raymond Carver and Tobias Wolff in the Syracuse University creative-writing program and taught technical writing in the Engineering School at Cornell University. She has done writing of all kinds for organizations of all kinds, from the Fortune 500 to the just plain fortunate. To share her love of writing, Marcia collected one-of-a-kind essays into her book: "Word Up! How to Write Powerful Sentences and Paragraphs (And Everything You Build from Them)." Marcia lives in Portland, Oregon.

 

Post-conference Half-day Workshops (Tuesday, April 15) 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

  • Registration and continental breakfast (7:45 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.)
  • Selection of morning and afternoon half-day workshops, and optional lunch (reservation required). Select one of three available workshops for the morning. Select one of three available workshops for the afternoon. Each workshop runs for three hours.
  • Attend any selected workshop as a standalone event.
  • Attend lunch by registration only.

 

Morning Workshops (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.) Each of the three workshops lasts three hours. Pick one.

Spectrum Location

Rochester Institute of Technology

The Speaker Dinner/Reception on Sunday, April 13, will be held at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Airport (near RIT).

The Conference (Keynote and Education Sessions) on Monday, April 14, will be held in the CIMS Building (SLA/078), also known as Slaughter Hall.

To pay by check: Select your ticket and then select "Show other payment options." Checks should be made payable to "STC Rochester Chapter". Follow the instructions on the Pay By Check screen.

Note: Canadian registrants, please pay in U.S. funds (click the "Pay Offline" button) or by credit card (click the “Order Now” button.)

What if I am registering more than one person? As long as the registrations fall into the same fee category, you can select multiple quantities for the ticket.

Parking

For pre-conference Sunday Dinner and Opening Reception, park in the Radisson Hotel parking lot.

For all other events (Conference and Leadership Day), park in Lot T.
