About William (Bill) Soza: The late William Soza (1936-2011) was the founder and President of Soza & Company LTD, which provided accounting, management, and technical consulting services.
Mr. Soza was born in 1936 and grew up in Presidio, a small border town (population 1500) on the Rio Grande in Texas and, area near Big Bend National Park where his ancestors had lived since the late 1700s. Upon earning a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas-Austin in 1960, Mr. Soza was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. Upon his discharge in 1962, he worked for several small accounting firms and as an auditor at an engineering firm. In 1969 he started his own accounting firm and in 1973 it merged with another accounting practice, thus ensuring its growth and profitability.
In 1974, Mr. Soza and 11 other Hispanic leaders started Hemisphere National Bank in Washington, D.C. The Bank was sold in 1981 to Capital Bank in Florida, which later sold it to BB&T Corp. In 1988, Soza & Company, now based in Fairfax County, was certified under the federal government's 8(a) program. Nine years later, it had 380 employees and about $48 million in revenue. Mr. Soza then acquired several small management and information technology companies and an oceanography company. By the end of 2002, it had 900 employees and annual revenues of $137 million. In 2003, the firm was sold to Perot Systems Corp. for $107 million in cash and stock.
Soza & Company was recognized as a top 100 federal information technology prime contractor by Washington Technology Magazine in 2002, and in 2001 as a Community Trustee Award-Business by Leadership Fairfax, Inc. In 1998, it was named an Inc-500 Company. Also, Mr. Soza was recognized as the National Hispanic Businessman of the Year in 1998 by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was named one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States by Hispanic Business Magazine in 1999.
In February 1999 the Virginia Senate recognized Mr. Soza for his many contributions to his profession, his community and the Commonwealth. In June, 2004, George Mason University Diversity Advisory Board honored him with the Annual Ingram Unity Award. In June, 2005, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accounts presented him an award for bringing honor to the profession and the Society for his passionate commitment to public service at the local, state and national levels. In April, 2007, the Northern Virginia Urban League honored him with the Excellence in Leadership & Community Service Award. In 2010, Mr. Soza was inducted into the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame for his lifetime business achievements and for his numerous civic and community contributions.
Mr. Soza served on several boards including John Marshall Bank (formerly Security One Bank), the National Capital Region of the American Red Cross, Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, the Board of Visitors of George Mason University and the Board of Advisors of the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MAHCC)

The MAHCC is organized into five State Divisions: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. State Divisons are organized into Chapters, each one led by a local leader and its own Leadership Council. Each chapters is represented by a voting members on the MAHCC Board of Directors.
