Imagine your parks – better than you imagined.
BREC Superintendent Carolyn F. McKnight
Wednesday, February 19th
Networking begins at 11:30am, Luncheon from 12pm-1pm
Juban's Creole Restaurant
It was nearly a decade ago that BREC asked our parish to come together and dream about the future of our park system. And you dreamed big! We now have twelve community parks, five dog parks, Liberty Lagoon water park, skateboard parks, fishing ponds, new conservation areas for hikers and nature lovers, improved playgrounds, a growing trails system, a mobile playground unit as well as renovations to our neighborhood parks and special use facilities.
Now it's time to plan for the next 10 years! BREC is kicking off Imagine Your Parks 2, gathering new ideas for the next strategic plan that will guide the Parish's parks and recreation system from 2015 to 2024. And who better to hear how we've made BREC "Better Than Imagined" - the superintendent herself, Carolyn F. McKnight!
Carolyn F. McKnight is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State University and a Master of Science degree in Education Administration from Texas Christian University.
Carolyn came to BREC in January of 2012 after serving over 27 years in the field of Parks and Recreation with the City of Dallas. Her responsibilities in the Dallas Park and Recreation Department included managing the department’s $55 million dollar operating budget, implementing the long range strategic plan, directing the policies of the Park Board, 23 community recreation centers, 22 community swimming pools, nearly 200 neighborhood parks, six 18-hole golf courses, five tennis centers, a gun range, two dog and skate parks, playgrounds, 10 lakes and numerous other park amenities. She managed a full-time workforce of 280 employees and over 300 part-time and seasonal staff.
Carolyn served her nation and state of Texas in the United States Air Force and the Texas Air National Guard for a total of 29 years.
