Event Details

Join Spark for a Mentor Appreciation Happy Hour in San Francisco, celebrating National Mentoring Month (NMM). NMM recognizes the importance of mentors for young people across the country.

Whether you're a current mentor, a past mentor, or just learning more about becoming a mentor, we invite you to come mingle with staff, board members and community supporters in San Francisco. Spark is excited to start 2013 and our 9th year in the Bay Area, and it's all possible through our mentors and friends. We look forward to honoring our current and past partners, and sharing gratitude and stories.

Hear brief remarks from local leaders, share experiences with fellow mentors or learn how to get yourself or your company involved in mentoring Spark students in 2013. A great way to kick off the new year!

As part of our Mentor Appreciation during National Mentoring Month, Spark will be honoring several special mentors and ambassadors.

Event Speaker and San Francisco District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener will present awards.

Appetizers and Cash Bar.

Spark is a national nonprofit that re-engages underserved seventh and eighth grade students, keeping them on track and ready for success in high school and beyond through workplace-based apprenticeships that uniquely combine mentoring, project-based learning, skill building and career exploration.

By intervening early, Spark partners with schools to reach disengaged students at a critical inflection point in their education.  Spark brings students out of the classroom and into the workplace for project-based mentoring coupled with an in-school Leadership Curriculum that emphasizes the importance of skills including teamwork, time management and goal setting to prepare students for a successful transition to high school. Supported by more than 80 hours of powerful, hands-on programming, 89% of Spark students enter ninth grade on track to graduate on time, compared to 70% of their peers.
