Liftport

This talk is part of the LA Makerspace Interstellar Hitchhiker Makers Group series of workshops, talks and field trips.

LiftPort is attempting to move space elevator construction forward, by putting an elevator on the moon in 2020! Michael Laine will take you through the background on Terrestrial Space Elevators, and why they are problematic at the moment, leading to LiftPort Group's vision of a Lunar Elevator as alternative first step. As a precursor to deploying a Lunar Elevator, they are experimenting with Earth-bound "Tethered Towers", which will enable them to develop relevant elevator technologies and create valuable emergency communication systems for terrestrial use.

For more on this initiative and their very successful Kickstarter campaign, read here!
