Sound and movement workshop with Mariko Satomi and Ryoko Akama
Friday, 27 July 2012 from 10:00 to 17:00
Following her performance at the FON Festival last year, sound artist Ryoko Akama returns to Barrow for a new project in collaboration with renowned dancer Mariko Satomi. As part of their 'Ways of Strings' project, Ryoko and Mariko invite you to create sound sculptures in the park and work with them to create a short performance together.
Octopus are a sound art and new music organisation based in Cumbria and the producers of the bi-annual Full of Noises Festival. The festival attracts a national audience to an isolated area of the UK and provides a platform for collaboration, discussion and development between artists from different countries and levels of experience.
In parallel with the festival, Octopus runs an annual residency programme for artists to research and develop new work from its studio building in Barrow Park. Previous artists in residence have included AGF (Finland), Hildur Gudnadottir (Iceland), Tetsuo Kogawa (Japan) and Philip Jeck (UK).
