SOTX: Greater Dallas - Area 10  

 Aquatics Competition 2013

The event is hosted by the Fisco ISD and will Frisco Natatorium.  General volunteers are needed to support this competition. If you have advanced aquatics skills and knowledge (high school varsity swimmer, collegiate swimmer, trained official), please select a ticket and also contact the Area 10 Program Director, Cyndi Murchison at cmurchison@sotx.org

  

Volunteer Shifts / Check-In:

Times include checkin & training

         Friday PM: 5:30pm-9:30pm

         Saturday AM: 8:00am-12:30pm 

         Saturday PM: 12:00pm -5:30pm 

 

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be 15 years old or older to volunteer alone
  • Volunteers between 8-14 years old must be accompanied by an adult (4  to 1 ratio) and will serve as Fans in the Stands to cheer our athletes on!!
  • PHOTO ID is REQUIRED AT REGISTRATION!

VOLUNTEER ROLES & EXPECTATIONS: 

Needs will vary according to sport, we expect volunteers to be flexible to meet our competition needs. Volunteers are not pre-assigned roles, but are given roles and responsibilities upon arriving at the venue.  Roles will include...

  • Timers - Operate timers for each lane

  • Staging Escorts- Assist in staging outside/inside and escort athletes into the pool.

  • On Deck Staging-make sure athletes are in their correct  lane and stay with their correct heat of athletes

  • Finish Line-assist athletes out of the pool & escort them to holding area for awards

  • Awards Escorts-take athletes from the holding area (bleachers) to wait before they are awarded

  • Awards Assistant-Assist with giving out medals and ribbons; must be over 15 years of age or older

  • Fans In Stands-volunteers that are not old enough to volunteer alone; vounteers 15+ years can volunteer alone; however, the younger volunteers must come supervised with a 4:1 (4 children supervised by 1 adult); prior to the competition you can make posters and cheer for the athletes as they compete. Call the Area 10 Office for Team Names!

VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS: 

  • For those needing confirmation of service hours, at the completion of your volunteer shift you may report back to volunteer registration for signatures or confirmation forms. 
  • Or contact the area office after the competition 

GROUP VOLUNTEERING: 

If you are affiliated with a group of 10 or more, a business/corporation, and/or organization, please register by emailing sotxdallasarea10volunteers@mail.com   Please include the word  "Group" in  the subject  line  of  your e-mail. Please note that large groups will often be split for the volunteer assignments.

WHAT TO WEAR / BRING: 

  • Wear comfortable clothes 
  • Closed toed shoes (no flip-flops)
  • Money for souvenirs or concessions stands 
  • Photo ID

Our Mission:
The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

GREATER DALLAS - Area 10

Number of athletes: 6,300+
Number of Coaches: 700+

Counties Served: Bowie, Camp, Cass, Collin, Dallas, Delta, Ellis, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Kaufman, Lamar, Morris, Red River, Rockwall and Titus

Sports: Aquatics, Athletics (Track and Field), Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling (currently compete with Area 11), Equestrian, Figure skating, Flag Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Saling/Kayaking, Powerlifting (currently compete wth Area 11), Softball, Soccer, Tennis and Volleyball

Outreach/Programs:

  • Motor Activities Training (MATP)
  • Young Athletes Program (YAP-Inclusion Program for all children Ages 2-7)
  • Athletes in Training (AIT is 8 yrs & up)
  • Athlete Leadership Program (ALP's must be 15 yrs+ and speak with the program director for more info)
