som|dog's Spring Fling
Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (EDT)
Local nonprofit organization som|dog, will bring its first-ever “Spring Fling” event to Union Square on Sunday, May 19 for an afternoon of fun for canines and their companions.
The event will host activities, unique vendors, a Frisbee demonstration, Dog Treat Bakeoff contest judged by Polka Dog Bakery, a fashion show presented by RiverDog, live music featuring Ryan Taylor Band, American Echoes, and 80’s Reunion, craft beer provided by Smuttynose Brewing and a Kiddie Corner with crafts, face-painting and much more. Local trainers will host education sessions for children to learn appropriate ways to interact with canines and be onsite to consult with your behavior questions.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their dog in costume for a chance to win prizes throughout the day. Original dog treat recipes are still being accepted through May 1 to enter the Dog Treat Bakeoff Contest.
The “Spring Fling” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is free and open to the public thanks to the City of Somerville, Crate Escape and The Precinct. Attendees are encouraged to bring an in-kind donation for Somerville Animal Control. Somerville Animal Control is in need of dry dog and cat food, kitty litter, towels and blankets. Linens can be second-hand, but clean.
Tickets for the Beer Bark Garden can be purchased in advance; $20 for non-members includes two drink tickets and a year-long membership to som|dog with discounts to local businesses, $10 for members, includes two drink tickets. Membership cards must be presented at the door. Tickets are limited.
Well-mannered and leashed dogs welcome. For safety, no flexi leads or prong collars please. This is a rain or shine event.
