Join the faculty and graduating students of Visual Communications: Art & Graphic Design Department on launching their careers.

DOORS OPEN 5:45pm. PROGRAM BEGINS AT 6:00pm sharp.

"SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN: 2014 Visual Communications Senior Pitch," a presentation of products, campaigns and services developed by students graduating from the School of Business Baccalaureate program in Visual Communications: Art & Graphic Design. Both commercially viable and culturally significant, these products have been realized through graphic, web, industrial and motion design.

Fourteen graduating students of Prof. Graydon Kolk and Prof. Irina Lee will be presenting their work to a public audience at SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN: 2014 Visual Communications Senior Pitch on April 29, 2014 at 6pm in Little Theater, located in Roosevelt Hall, on the campus of Farmingdale State College, State University of New York, at 2350 Broadhollow Road (Route110). The key panelists and speakers at this event include: Allison Puff, Associate Dean, School of Business, Adrian Jank, Product Director, Institutional Investor, and Lisa Maione, Principal For Instance, Co-Founder Evoke, Faculty Parsons The New School for Design, Queens College CUNY.

Following the live pitch event, will be an Opening Reception of SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN: 2014 Visual Communications Demo Day on May 1, 2014 at the Hale Memorial Gallery, Nathan Hale Hall, Farmingdale State College. Curated by Visual Communications: Art & Graphic Design department professors, Irina Lee and Graydon Kolk, SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN: 2014 Visual Communications Demo Day will offer a multi-media and interactive display of the projects, and will be on view from April 27–May 3, 2014. SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN is one of three Senior Pitches being conducted by the Visual Communications program.


INNOVATING HEALTHCARE
Speaking to the healthcare community, Lorenzo Iuculano provides a tablet app to help families and friends of LIS patients communicate through iamo, Amanda Carley’s CLEAR! mobile app provides access to important medical information in emergency situations. Paula Flores celebrates the strength of breast cancer patients through Pinkit, while Brandon Schwartz’s My Fight Club empowers teens undergoing cancer treatment with support through activities, art, music, pet therapy, sports and more.

CREATING NEW EXPERIENCES
Inspiring creativity and imagination, Rita Boughton’s DecoRita Design provides do-it-yourselfers easy instructional videos to create beautiful interiors at home, Ellery Mann proposes a new type of collaboration for digital artists through mixir, while Kyle Mark introduces artists to new tools and techniques through Kenos. Addressing education, Christina Doodnauth shares Indo-Caribbean culture through stories of Hindu deities in Yurani’s Tales, Anthony Pietramala tackles science literacy in high-school education through Cognos, while Brandon Torres educates model builders through a one-stop hub, Zero to Scale.

MAKING A BETTER LIFE
Speaking to improve the lives of animals, Chelsea Gilday’s Chi Charm promotes peace and healing from canine anxiety with the use of pheromones, and Kelly O’Hara sheds light on animal related charities through HEARD, a line of greeting cards with a philanthropic purpose. Optimizing existing processes, Zain Chaudry, helps drivers in NYC navigate to a parking spot with Parallel, and Ricky Morales streamlines party planning through Party Now.


SOLUTIONS BY DESIGN: 2014 Visual Communications Senior Pitch is a culmination of final work developed by graduating students in the Visual Communications: Art & Graphic Design capstone course called Senior Project + Portfolio. Senior Project + Portfolio serves as an incubator for young entrepreneurs. Working independently, students gain access to professional speakers, tools and resources to deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation, while drawing on visual languages across all design disciplines including, graphic, web, industrial and motion design.

Where: Little Theater, located in Roosevelt Hall, on the campus of Farmingdale State College, State University of New York, at 2350 Broadhollow Road
Transportation: Take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Ronkonkoma line. Get off at Farmingdale. Take a taxi from the Farmingdale Station to the College ($4 fare).
Parking: Guests will need to stop by the University Police to obtain a Lot 5 temporary parking permit for general parking spaces, designated by white lines.

ABOUT VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS SENIOR PROJECT + PORTFOLIO COURSE Senior Project + Portfolio is the capstone course in the Visual Communications: Art & Graphic Design Baccalaureate program. Over the course of two semesters, students incubate an entrepreneurial venture. Students learn to research, innovate, ideate, prototype, experiment, test, develop, write a business plan, project financial figures, develop strategic partnerships, refine and define their own individual voice in both written and visual form. Students develop a self-directed venture that is now culminating in a final pitch presentation, a book, and a demo day.
