Event Details

Come learn how to solder in a supportive, women-only* environment at, your local hacker hangout!  Lessons are free.

While this event is limited to women in the interest of supporting those of us who might be a bit shy about getting started with electronics, the lab is also putting on a general-audience soldering workshop on March 21.  Details are here.

Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint.  In electronics, it's often used to electrically and physically connect electrical components (ICs, resistors, capacitors, etc) to PCBs (printed circuit boards, those flat green things you see in your computer).

We will have a bunch of things you can build (electronics kits) on hand to choose from:

 - bliplace sound reactive pendant kit ($10)
 - Trippy RGB Wave kit, responds to movement ($10)
 - TV-be-Gone remote control kit ($20)
 - Truth Kit galvanic skin response bracelet ($50)
 - North Paw compass anklet kit ($149)

Or bring your own!  No prior experience necessary.  Most kits can be completed in less than an hour even by beginners.  Class starts at 7pm, stay as little or as long as you like.

Due to limited desk space (and limited number of soldering irons), please RSVP.

Non-beginners welcome as well: come get help with your project.  The instructor has experience with surface mount soldering, circuit debugging, schematics and layout in Eagle, micro-controller programming, etc.

*We define women inclusively.  Transphobia is not welcome.
