Detroit Jazz Music in Homes
A. Spencer Barefield Quartet
in Palmer Woods
Come to an intimate jazz soiree with A. Spencer Barefield Quartet on Sat. Sept 1, 8 pm. Food, wine, desserts and of course great jazz. Spencer on guitar, Dwight Adams on trumpet (Stevie Wonder's regular touring sideman), Djallo Djakate on drums, and Canada's national treasure and Juno award winner (their Grammy's) bassist Dave Young (he was Oscar Peterson's bassist for decades). Tickets must be purchased in advance and we will email you the address after you order your tickets.
YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR HOME!
Before Palmer Woods Music in Homes, there was jazz, classical and world music at the Barefield's Palmer Woods home, the CAC Concert House (Creative Arts Collective). They were so much fun that Barbara and Spencer convinced their neighbors to let them produce concerts in their homes to raise funds to support the neighborhood (Palmer Woods Association), the arts, and various other charities.
When & Where
Creative Arts Collective
Creative Arts Collective (CAC) has been presenting jazz and creative music in Detroit and throughout the world since 1978. It is a nonprofit 501 (C)(3) charity dedicated to the presentation, preservation and creation of jazz, creative music and artistic expression.
Directed by jazz composer/guitarist A. Spencer Barefield, CAC has made its mark both locally and internationally. Its 13-year concert series at the Detroit Institute of Arts boldly presented collaborations between Barefield and other Detroit-based artists — such as Tani Tabbal, Jaribu Shahid, Dave McMurray, Tony Holland, Roy Brooks, Faruq Z. Bey, James Carter, Regina Carter, Geri Allen, Marcus Belgrave and many others — with jazz greats such as Roscoe Mitchell, Leroy Jenkins, George Lewis, Douglas Ewart, Muhal Richard Abrams, Richard Davis, Andrew Cyrille, Anthony Davis, Lester Bowie, Reggie Workman and a long list of others. CAC's contributions to the cultural scene in Michigan earned it the Governor's Arts Award for most valuable arts organization.
CAC continues to present concerts throughout the US and internationally. Many of its concerts have been broadcast on National Public Radio and have been released on CDs. CAC has been producing the Palmer Woods Music in Homes concerts since 2007, as well as performances throughout Michigan, the US and internationally. More info at www.spencerbarefield.com
