Event Details

Join @EcoOutfitters for #SolarChat on Twitter on January 18th at a special time: 1:00-2:00 p.m. ET, when we will be "Shining a Spotlight on Solar Job Creation."

The largest optical selling/motivating talking point when discussing solar is a focus on jobs and the enormous potential for job creation. With recent stats showing  that solar jobs are growing at nearly 10 times the rate of employment as a whole within the U.S., we are in a perfect position to shine a spotlight on the benefit of value of the solar industry. So, what is a "green collar worker"? What skills are needed to succeed in such roles? What training courses are important? How difficult is it to transition from other sectors into solar?

Moderated by solar champion Raina Brett Russo, president and co-founder of EcoOutfitters.net, the 1/18/12 #SolarChat will be joined by guest panellists Andrea Luecke (@SolarAnde), the executive direcotor of The Solar Foundation, and Monique Hanis, the director of communication for the Solar Energy Industries Association (@SolarMonique).

Ms. Luecke is responsible for developing and implementing national educational initiatives and high-level research that promote the widespread adoption of solar energy. Ms. Luecke played a key role in authoring and releasing the award winning National Solar Jobs Census 2010 and 2011 and currently plays a leadership role on the U.S. Department of Energy Solar America Communities program while also providing IREC with advanced technical support on the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Instructor Training Network project.

Ms. Hanis serves as a spokesperson for SEIA, develops and implements SEIA's communications plans, manages the communications team and supports key member efforts including SEIA's Public Relations Committee, the Utility-Scale Messaging Working Group and the Solar Thermal Messaging Working Group. Also, she launched SEIA's Environment, Health & Safety Committee.

#SolarChat provides an opportunity to connect homeowners and qualified installation professionals, to demonstrate the affordability and environmental impact of all types of solar solutions, and to educate consumers on this emerging field. "We believe in the power of solar to change the world," says Russo. "We hope #SolarChat will further advance EcoOutfitters' goal of making solar a reality for every American home and business."

For those new to Twitter, a hashtag (#) is an easy way to find and follow people who are tweeting about a certain topic. #SolarChat has a simple mission: Curious consumers, energy experts, and installation professionals can tune into Twitter at the designated chat time to share advice and resources, weigh in on discussion topics, pose questions or concerns, and work together to advance solar awareness.

#SolarChat is held on the first and third Wednesday of every month from 2-3 p.m. ET.
