Event Details

One of the most successful uses of social media in the last year has been to promote charitable causes. Twestival, Tweetsgiving, the Daniela Project, are all good examples of recent successful social media campaigns. Non-profit organizations everywhere rapidly building social media programs.

Gradon Tripp is a recognized leader in the area of leveraging social media for charitable causes. Mr. Tripp is a Boston-based social media, technology and design aficionado. He fully immerses himself in the world of social media: He is the founder of DesignBoston, Boston’s largest local design blog; he also writes about social media and life at GradonTripp.com; he also speaks about the role social media plays in helping non-profit organizations raise awareness.  Last year, he founded Social Media 4 Social Change.  The premise of SM4SC is simple — to take all the connections made through social media, and put them together to host first-class fundraising events happen “in real life”. SM4SC’s fundraisers benefit local charities in cities around the United States.

For our July event, Social Media Club Richmond is very pleased to bring Gradon Tripp to RVA to share his insights with us.  The event will be held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  A $20 ticket includes access to the event, heavy hors'd'ouvres and two complimentary drinks.  There will also be a cash bar.

Most recently, both SM4SC and the larger Social Media Club organization have thrown their support behind Mashable's Summer of Social Good initiative.  Summer of Social Good is the first large scale online charitable campaign to raise funds strictly online through the power of Social Media and the Internet. The goal is to use the power of "Social Influence" via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Blogs and other online media to raise an unprecedented amount for a fund benefiting The Humane Society, LIVESTRONG, Oxfam America and WWF from June 1st until August 28th, 2009.  All proceeds from this month's event (after expenses) will be donated to Summer of Social Good!

As with past SMCRVA events, this will sell out fast.  Due to space constraints at this months event, we will only be selling 150 tickets. As with last month's event, we will release tickets in several batches to allow for mor people to have access to registration over the next few days.  There will not be a waiting list, so get your tickets early!!!

Social Media Club Richmond (SMCRVA)

Social Media Club is an international organization, founded in 2006, with the goal of hosting conversations that explore key issues facing our society as technologies transform the way we connect, communicate, collaborate and relate to each other. Today, there are 300+ chapters on six continents, the largest such collection of social media professionals and enthusiasts in the world.

Social Media Club Richmond (SMCRVA) was founded in May of 2009 to bring the ideals of the larger organization to central Virginia in the form of relevant, practical social media programs on a monthly basis. Our events have ranged from panel discussions identifying the ways changing technologies have affected myriad industries to presentations from noted authors and inspirational guest speakers, always with the goal of mixing interesting business ideas and practices with a networking and social component.

SMCRVA is a non-profit organization; our regular events are open to the public and typically carry a small fee to cover catering and other venue costs. While opportunities to become an official member of the national organization exist, we consider every attendee of our SMCRVA events to be a local member. If you would like to volunteer at an upcoming event or like to know how you can get more involved in the local organization, send us an email at SMCRichmond@gmail.com
