Welcome to the world of soap making! Join our Make studio coordinator Martin in this hands-on class as he explains how soap is made, and guides you through the process start to finish of saponifying coconut, olive, and palm oils, how to scent with essential oils and how to mold your soap. Each student will make their own batch of cold-process soap, about 7 bars, in soap molds that are made to take home and re-use for years to come. Registration ends May 15th, ages 18 and up.

When: Thursday, May 17th from 6-9 PM

Where: JUMP Share Studio on the 1st floor

Cost: This one session class is $100, participants receive 7 bars of their own cold-processed soap and a soap mold

Martin Sarasqueta is the Make studio coordinator at JUMP and has been, among other things, a pizza maker in Stanley, a bartender and sandal maker in the Caribbean, a custom furniture designer and builder in California, and a soap maker in Boise. When not tinkering with tools, he makes music no one wants to hear, grows too much food in his garden, makes really delicious gin, thinks way too much about soil, tries not to die skateboarding, and walks around collecting and scattering wildflower seeds on walks in the evening with his wife and dog.

What inspires you?

"Creativity, on any level, and unique innovation and problem solving inspire me. Give 100 people a task and ten tools, and you'll get eight different unique processes. I love picking apart the process and understanding why and how people do what they do. Craftsmanship is inspiring. People devoting their lives to perfecting a craft or trade. The world is full of beautiful, amazing things, from a perfect weld to a carefully curated bonsai tree to homemade croquetas. I love croquetas, mmmmm."
