Crazy bakers have social media meltdown

You've seen the online carnage - from the latest Facebook brand backlash to cluelessly automated tweets to ill-advised tweets that got users fired. Aside from loss of good will, both companies and individuals can face potential legal issues associated with endorsements, defamation, copyrights and user-generated content.

In a hyper-connected world where authenticity and lightning-fast response are prized and "done is better than perfect", how do you avoid lawsuits and social media disasters?

Our local experts explore how companies educate, guide and monitor their employees who use social media. Panelists will discuss common social media pitfalls and how companies and individuals can avoid high-profile mis-steps that can damage brand equity and create massive potential liability.

Please note - Due to unavailability at ACC, we will instead have the panel at Austin's Pizza on the drag.

Our law-abiding, governance-savvy, meltdown-preventing panelists are:

  • Chris Boudreaux, Global Technology Lead for Social and Text Analytics and Strategy, Accenture
  • Ryan M Garcia, Social Media attorney for Dell
  • Jason Ford, Founder/President, FeedMagnet

Dara Quackenbush, strategic communications consultant, will moderate the discussion.

Join us at 6:00 for pizza, networking and mingling. Our panel discussion starts at about 6:30. Hope to see you there!

Panel Lineup:

MODERATOR: Dara Quackenbush (@dquack)

Dara QuackenbushFrom a young age, Dara was interested in media and journalism. After all, how many teens do you know who read the newspaper every day? By the time she got into college, her dream of being a foreign correspondent in Central America for Newsweek gave way to wanting to tell positive stories. She focused her journalism studies on PR and advertising, and has spent her career helping companies from Wal-Mart to small start-ups tell their stories, whether it's developing strategy, pitching media or social media outreach.

An experienced leader (Dara’s a graduate of the Leadership Austin Essential program), she grows relationships with clients and partners. She has successfully led and mentored teams of young professionals, winning a mentoring award in 2010. She is the past president of the Women Communicators of Austin (formerly AWC Austin); under her presidency, the organization unaffiliated with its national organization and became an independent organization. In the process, they grew membership 20%. Dara loves sharing what she knows and frequently advises non-profits and start-ups. She also speaks on communications and social media topics, most notably at both the 2011 and 2012 SXSWi conferences.

In 2009, he created an online database of social media policies. Toward the end of 2009, he published his first analysis of social media policies. In 2011, he co-authored The Social Media Management Handbook at Accenture, where he led business transformation programs at Fortune 500 clients including Boeing and Microsoft.
