There is currently no area of Emergency Management planning that is as talked about or as under-utilized as Social Media. During a disaster event, people usually have their cell phones with them. This means that each individual has a networking device with a database of phone numbers, and the ability to describe, photograph and videotape incidents as they happen. The power of an expanding network of individuals reporting their first-hand experience is often the first communication link to report or to come back on-line in a major disaster event.
