Slow Food Backyard Garden Tour
Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
A Day in the Vegetable Garden!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 12
10am - 5pm
We’re holding a backyard garden tour to showcase home gardens, their highlights, and challenges!
Six gardens, from Novato to Mill Valley, will be open for visitors on this self-guided tour. You’ll visit local microclimates, and see how your neighbors are making their gardens grow! Talk with each gardener, and enjoy a beautiful Marin summer day while inspiring your green thumb.
Curious about backyard chickens? Want to know how to install raised beds? Wondering how to deal with pests? Or compost? Bring all of your questions… and a bit of an appetite, because depending on the season’s yield, some of our gardeners might offer tastings of their bounty.
These are gardens large and small, modest and ambitious, beginner and advanced, so expect variety and a thorough education. You’ll be able to see a large variety of vegetable plants, fruit trees, berries and herbs. Garden visiting hours will run from 10 am to 3 pm.
After you’ve visited our Slow Food-friendly gardeners, please join us at a walk-up* reception at Hillside Gardens in Mill Valley from 3-5pm. Admire the beauty of our final garden of the day, while meeting with Project Abundance, a local beekeeper, and representatives from other backyard gardening-focused organizations. Light refreshments will be served.
(*Parking at Hillside Gardens is absolutely prohibited, and all guests must park in downtown Mill Valley. it's a quick 10-minute walk, and it's worth every step!)
Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for children. (Garden locations and directions will be forwarded to all ticket holders on August 5.)
All proceeds benefit Slow Food Marin-Petaluma and its support of local farmers & artisan producers.
