Event Details

This course presents an overview of Collaborative Problem Solving®, an empirically supported, compassionate, and productive approach to understanding and helping children and youth with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Participants are introduced to a mindset of understanding the impact of lagging skills and environmental demands on the ability of a child or youth to be successful. Entry steps to proactive problem solving are explored through practice scenarios and strategies to prioritize unsolved problems and organize group thinking are also reviewed.

This course is based on Collaborative Problem Solving®, a model developed by child psychologist Ross Greene, Ph.D., author of The Explosive Child (HarperCollins, 2010) and Lost at School (Scribner, 2009), and founder of the non-profit advocacy organization Lives in the Balance. Elements of this model have influenced the services provided by Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families. Casa Pacifica trainers have received advanced training from, but are not affiliated with Dr. Ross Greene or Lives in the Balance.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

(a) Integrate knowledge of the impact of lagging skills and environmental demands on the ability of a child or youth to be successful within current support roles

(b) Identify specific unsolved problems which may be causing difficulty for a particular child or youth, and

(c) Apply entry steps to solve problems together with a child or youth in a proactive manner.
