November Topic – Going Solar in JC!

Please RSVP so we make sure we have enough RAZZA Pizza Artisanale to go around !  That’s the EAT part :-)

Marie Therese Aberjinger has been in Jersey City since 2010. She has relocated and is building her startup Green business on MLK drive in Greenville, the most economically depressed area of Jersey City. She writes articles about “Greening” your environment on the cheap. Her theme “Going green without going broke”. Marie will discuss:

  • Residential PACE: what it means and its impact on individuals
  • “Green” appliances, should you?
  • The PSEG Installation Process
Tim Snyder is a Jersey City resident since 1999 and is and advocate of building sustainable communities.  Tim will talk about
  • The benefits of residential solar
  • How Jersey City could set up solar-friendly ordinances
  • Strategies to move forward and raise local awareness

Andy Velwest – has lived in JC since 1988, is a solar advocate and installed a 6kW solar system on his roof in 2008.  He’ll talk about:

  • Financial and Environmental Benefits of Solar for Homeowners, Condos, and large commercial buildings.
  • What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and its pros and cons versus buying the system.
  • Community Solar approach, how it works, using Solarize Brooklyn as an example.

We announced last month that SJC is moving ahead with a Greener Buildings education agenda.  At our September Meeting, we had a couple of presentations by neighborhood building owners on Energy Efficiency Strategies they've implemented, resulting in major cost savings.  For October, our focus will be on ECO BUILDING MATERIALS & COST SAVING RENOVATION STRATEGIES.

These discussions are dedicated to both residents and trade professionals, helping all to understand the quality of life benefits available to JC stakeholders, as well as ways to do our part not to negatively impact the environment.  Just as important, these discussions illuminate cost savings and returns on investments available to individuals and businesses, making a real difference to our pocketbooks.

Please RSVP so we make sure we have enough RAZZA Pizza Artisanale to go around !  That's the EAT part :-)

Mastropietro & Partners, located in Buenos Aries, Argentina and Jorge Mastropietro Architects (JMA), located in New York, are fundamentally in search of solutions that are integral, esthetic, functional and rational. The firm works in a broad array of architectural needs, including environmental architecture, urban design, landscaping, interior design, and structure engineering consultation. They are involved in all phases of the architectural process, from idea conception and schematic design through construction documentation.  The core value of Jorge Mastropietro’s architecture is the search for a rational, geometric and economic solution meeting a high design concept. The result is innovative, not always traditional, and forms the signature of his architectural style.

If you are interested to join SJC's Working Group on Greener Buildings / Green Infrastructure opportunities for JC, these monthly meetings are the place to jump in - this is a BIG agenda and more hands on deck are needed !

Our planning activities also include deepening our educational outreach in such areas as Recycling Food Waste and launching more innovative demonstration projects for Jersey City.  We are very excited about the support we can provide to neighborhood initiatives through our project funding platform with charitable donations partner ioby.org and SJC is looking for more folks to join our ranks to make this happen.

Let us know if you would like to be involved in these areas by taking our Welcome Survey - is very quick and will also put you into our system so you can receive all of our notifications.

Suggested food donation $5.00

Special Thanks To RAZZA Pizza Artigianale and their Sustainable Table Menu !!
