Expected Result:

An increase in physician knowledge regarding current evidence-based approaches to autism, serving to enhance physician practice and patient understanding

Targeted Audience:

Northeast Florida and community pediatricians, family physicians, general surgeons, pediatric/adult neurosurgeons, neurologist, hospitalist, psychiatrists, immunologists, critical care physicians, emergency medicine physicians, gastroenterologists, geneticists, obstetricians and gynocologists, internists, neonatologists, otolaryngologists, pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatric/adult allergists, physician assistants and advanced practice nurses.


  • Update on clinical features in the first few years of life
  • Discuss ASD-specific and broadband screeners – What is clinically available and what is in the works?
  • Learn about experimental measures (e.g., visual and vocal engagement studies on infants at risk for ASD.)

Celine A. Saulnier, PhD, is Clinical Director of Research at the Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Autism and Related Disorders, Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine.

The Marcus Autism Center is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of children with autism and related disorders, treating approximately 5,000 children a year and is an affiliate of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The Marcus Autism Center staff of highly trained pediatric professionals is supported by research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Center was awarded the prestigious ACE (Autism Center of Excellence) designation by the NIH in 2012, funded by a grant of more than $8.3 million to Emory University from the NIH.

The ACE is one of only three such centers nationwide (the other being UCLA and Boston University) and brings together more than 25 researchers and physicians in eight laboratories in the three Atlanta institutions along with collaborators in Florida State University. The ACE studies risk and resilience for autism in infants and toddlers through fundamental research and new screening programs in early infancy. This innovative research program in setting the stage for changing autism’s course even before there is obvious disability. The Marcus Autism Center is the largest center of clinical care for individuals with autism and their families in the country.


Baptist Health is accredited by the Florida Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Baptist Health designates this educational activity for a maximum of two hours (2) hours AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
