Singles for Science

Singles for Science? Yep, we need 'em!
While Science Pub events are free and open to the public, they're not exactly free to bring into being.
Science Pub RVA is an independent, citizen-led endeavor. In our second season (September 2013 through June 2014) we'll create 10 public events covering a variety of topics from ecology to neurobiology.
So far this season, we've connected more than 300 curious minds and creative scientific thinkers at five events. We're completely cheered about that, but we're also in the red!
2nd season expenses to date are twice the amount that has been contributed this season. (The gap keeps getting smaller -- Cheers & thanks to everyone who's chipped in to date!)
Support is needed now to cover the costs of the free, public events already held as well as the organization's foundational and ongoing expenses. Things like:
Hosting speakers (dinner & a sip or two of some sort)
Reimbursing speakers (they donate their time, but sometimes expenses still exist. Update: the $150 amount required to bring a NASA speaker wasn't fully needed after all and we received a reimbursement of nearly $100 Cheers to that!)
Getting the word out (modest marketing & such)
Having a presence (website, graphic design & such)
Sundries (basics like nametags, signs, printing, etc.)
Why should you consider making a contribution?
You personally enjoy them
You believe in science for the public
You think Richmond deserves a science cafe
You want future events to remain free of ticket or membership fees so we can reach audiences no matter their financial situation.
Can you kick in a a small stack of singles into the beaker? Say $5, $10 or $20?
Or, perhaps you've become (or plan to be) a regular and would like to make one single contribution and consider yourself done for the season and not concern yourself with having cash on hand each time we say cheers.
If so, what's it worth to you to have these regular opportunities to absorb and discuss interesting topics
with local scientists? How about $35 or $50?
Whatever amount you contribute will truly be appreciated. Just keep in mind that your gift is not tax-deductible, as we're not a 501(c) organization -- just a few curious citizens creating opportunities for the adult public to engage with science in our community.
Cheers to keeping on!

Science Pub RVA
Science Pub RVA connects curious citizens and creative scientists over a sip of some sort at informal gatherings in non-academic settings.
What to expect A short, jargon-free presentation by a local scientific thinker and a slightly longer period dedicated to questions and dialogue among the attendees and with a local scientist.
What to bring No background in science is needed. A smidge of curiosity is all it takes to enjoy a fun and engaging time. Pub is in our name, but sipping a glass of water at these events is completely copacetic.
