Have a sewing machine that needs dusting? Here is your opportunity to get acquainted or re-acquainted with your personal sewing machine.
We will go over sewing machine basics, stitch functions, button holes and buttons as well as installing a zipper. Everyone will create a reversible tote as well as some other simple projects as we go over techniques.
Who is this class for?
Beginners from all backgrounds. Ages 9 and up. Possible opportunities for families to take the class!
What skills will be taught?
- We will create some small patchwork projects.
- Learn the basic skills of the sewing machine.
- Straight stitch, zig-zag, threading, basic maintenance.
- Winding a bobbin.
- Button holes and buttons as well as zipper installation.
What materials should I bring?
These projects will be made using up-cycled materials so students should bring with them any scrap fabric that they may have or old work shirts or jeans would work well for these projects. Old table linens are great for tote bags.
Hi everyone, I'm Jennie Fox.I am a mom, artist & educator. For the last ten years I have been working as a preschool teacher while operating my own business Turtlefly where I created one of a kind hand crafted items for people and places.
My mission in life is to create purposeful art that inspires and to share with others the happiness in discovering their own creative spark. I have an AAS in Textiles and Weaving from R.I.T and a BS in Studio Art from Nazareth. My grandmother shared a very special gift with me when I began sewing at age 4.
