Silvercasting with Cuttlebone: Start to Finish
Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM - Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 5:00 PM (EST)
Learn to melt down fine silver into shapes carved out of soft bone and walk away with a polished pendant of your own design in two days! This technique incorporates the natural grain of cuttlefish bone to give every piece a natural, organic, and chic look which makes producing elegant pieces a cinch. The lesson includes basic know-how with a torch and silver casting methods as well as finishing, polishing, and sulfur patinas. Also a great way to make elegant handmade gifts for the season.
Students will leave with basic casting and cleaning skills, as well as at least one polished pendant or charm as well as a practice piece in bronze.
Students must be at least 18 years of age. No technical experience required.
Materials will be provided, covered by the cost of registration: cast grain silver (~$40 per student) cast grain bronze (~$11 per student) and cuttlefish consumables ($4 per student). All tools will be provided.
