NYC Theatrical Premiere, One Week Only!
*** Filmmaker JOE SWANBERG and star KATE LYN SHEIL
in person on Friday, October 28 ***
"SILVER BULLETS is the most affecting "horror" movie I've seen in a while, as Swanberg ignores tired supernatural scare-flick trappings and locates terror in the shadowy, passive-aggressive process of making, and watching, movies."
- Mark Holcomb, THE VILLAGE VOICE (Oct. 26, 2011) [read the review]
"A harrowing tale of personal jealousy and artistic anguish. Framed lightly around a werewolf horror story, the slight tinge of psycho-sexual genre storytelling makes SILVER BULLETS, despite its free-form origins, feel like Swanberg's most cohesively structured film."
- Mark Olsen, LOS ANGELES TIMES
"Eruptive. SILVER BULLETS is the closest American equivalent to a film by Philippe Garrel, not just in its emotional world but in its harsh, still, and mood-heavy images, its use of music, and its depiction of a filmmaker's crisis."
- Richard Brody, THE NEW YORKER
WATCH THE TRAILER:
The subversive hit of SXSW and Berlin, SILVER BULLETS is the second in a trilogy of features premiering at reRun this fall from acclaimed filmmaker Joe Swanberg (HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS, UNCLE KENT, ART HISTORY). Inspired by Chekhov's "The Seagull," this dreamlike examination of art, commerce, power, desire, fame and despair makes its NYC theatrical premiere with a week-long run, October 28 - November 3.
Beautiful young actress Claire (Kate Lyn Sheil of AUTOEROTIC and THE COLOR WHEEL) is in a comfortable relationship with Ethan (Swanberg), a filmmaker who aspires to make meaningful films. She is his muse, and they are finishing a project together. After she accepts the lead role in a werewolf movie to be directed by a talented horror auteur named Ben (Ti West, director of THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL), Ethan is instantly weary of their relationship and suspects Claire is more interested in stardom than the pursuit of art.
As Claire connects with her new director, Ethan begins to spiral into depression and self-doubt. In retaliation against Claire, he casts her best friend Charlie (Amy Seimetz of TINY FURNITURE and A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE) as his girlfriend in his new project. While both productions move forward, Claire's life becomes more surreal and starts to resemble the werewolf movie she is working on.
70 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated. A Factory 25 release.
