The Silicon Valley Hispanic Youth Institute

July 31-August 3, 2013 

The Hispanic Youth Institute (HYI) is a three-day, two-night college empowerment program hosted on college campuses throughout the country. The HYI emphasizes college, career, and community. With hands-on sessions and workshops, the high school students who attend become committed to graduating from high school, achieving a four-year college education, pursuing a professional career in business or STEM, and giving back to their communities.  See video here

  • Public Speaking Workshop: 5:00p – 5:45p
  • Preliminary Talent Competition Judging: 6:20p – 9:00p

Friday August 2nd

  • Foundations for Success: 8:00a - 9:15a
  • Hispanic Heroes: 8:30a - 12:30pm
  • Strategic Application Process Workshop Presenter: 12:30p – 1:45p
  • Financing College Workshop Presenter: 12:30a – 1:45p
  • College and Career Fair: 1:45p – 3:00p
  • Career Workshops: 2:30pm - 5:10pm (3 consecutive and concurrent workshops consisting of 35 minutes each)
  • Preliminary Speech Competition Judging: 5:00p – 7:00p
  • Preliminary Speech Competition Moderating: 5:00p – 7:00p
  • Final Talent Competition Judging: 8:00p – 9:10p

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization supporting Hispanic higher education.

Founded in 1975, HSF provides American families with the financial and educational resources they need to achieve a college education and help America be more competitive. 

 

To date, HSF has awarded over $360 million in scholarships and has supported a broad range of outreach and education programs to help students and their families navigate collegiate life, from gaining admission and securing financial aid, to finding employment after graduation.
