Kansas Teacher of the Year 2013, Dyane Smokorowski (Mrs. Smoke) Keynote Speaker
Discovering 21st Century Learners
Explore and dialogue about the 21st century skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity through student projects and discover how your students can find real world connections to curriculum content.
Smokorowski has been with Andover School District USD 385 for five years, serving first as a PreK-12 instructional technology coach and technology professional development instructor for the district, and as an eighth grade language arts teacher at Andover Middle School for the past four years. Her project-based classroom focuses on critical thinking, communication, global collaboration, and creativity while encompassing digital citizenship components such as effective online research, ethical use of intellectual property, and Internet safety.
In addition to her teaching duties, Smokorowski works with other teachers across Kansas and the nation as an instructional technology coach who assists educators in the use of technology in a manner that enhances instruction. As an Intel National Senior Trainer Dyane provides professional development on project based learning strategies with enhanced technology integration and co-hosts monthly online webinars focused on digital tools, mobile apps, global collaboration, and 21st Century Skills.
Mrs. Smoke, as she’s known to her students, believes in a project-based, student-centered classroom that helps students build skills in communication, planning, research and project implementation. She wants her students to develop a love for literature, communication and technology, but also to understand how to use that love and passion to advance their own future, as well as that of their community.
